LC5 Daybed’s Story:

When famed designer Le Corbusier decided to redesign his flat in Paris, he ended up creating the LC5 Sofa. This is a beautiful convertible bench that rests on a frame of stylish chrome-plated steel that has been polished for that attractive shine. Corbusier designed furniture that could reflect emerging technology. As such, the LC5 Daybed is the perfect example of the industrial achievements of its era with its lightweight structure and the simple yet sophisticated design.

The LC5 Daybed was designed in 1934 by Le Corbusier. It is a 3-seat sofa which can be converted into a single bed easily by pivoting the back cushions over the rod in the back. This piece also features a customized mechanism with can be used to convert the piece from a deluxe sofa to a comfortable bed. In the LC5 bed, you will find a stainless steel frame polished to perfection along with cushions with removable covers. You can choose between for full aniline or top grain leather, both Italian.

At Furnish Concept Plus, we have ensured the structural accuracy of our LC5 sofa bed in all design details. We have taken steps to make sure that this sofa is a precise reproduction of the classic by Le Corbusier thanks to our world-class factory which features a topnotch quality adherence program.

Le Corbusier Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, who was better known as Le Corbusier; October 6, 1887 – August 27, 1965), was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, writer, and one of the pioneers of what is now called modern architecture. He was born in Switzerland and became a French citizen in 1930. His career spanned five decades, with his buildings constructed throughout Europe, India, and America. Dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities, Le Corbusier was influential in urban planning, and was a founding member of the Congrès international d'architecturemoderne (CIAM). Corbusier prepared the master plan forthe planned city of Chandigarh in India, and contributed specific designs for several buildings there. Beginning with a commission to build a home at 18 years old, Le Corbusier enjoyed a decades-long career in multiple industries. In architecture, he became known for his adherence to the golden rule and his Five Points of Architecture, while his accomplishments in urban planning are truly admirable. His furniture was also popularized, inspiring hundreds of other modern pieces. His most well known pieces are his LC-1, LC-2 and LC-3 chairs. Famously stating that “chairs are architecture” and that “sofas are bourgeois,” Le Corbusier upheld his design principles regardless of the genre he was working in. Lauded during his lifetime and after, even United States President Lyndon B. Johnson noted “his influence was universal and his works are invested with a permanent quality possessed by those of very few artists in our history.”
