Fabricius & Kastholm FK 6720-3 Sofa:

Designed in 1965, this FK 6720-3 sofa was inspired by functionalism and the adamance of Scandinavian design. Preben Fabricius (1931-1984) and Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007) aspired to devise everlasting functional designs that were uncomplicated and possessed the minimalist aesthetic. They mainly created pieces with leather, steel, or glass. The sturdy Scandinavian designs in the sixties are reflected in the construction of this easy chair.

Forty years later, it is being produced with steel. The seat cushion is loose and fully upholstered with genuine Italian leather. A leather cord is wrapped around the armrests as a finishing touch.

About the Designer

JØrgen Kastholm & Preben Fabricius

(1931 — 1984)  (1931 — 2007)

Inspired by functionalism and the adamance of Scandinavian design, which had a considerable influence on the aesthetics of the sixties, interior designers Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm devoted themselves to optimizing shape, material, and ergonomics. Their main concern was to clearly state the function of an aesthetic form and intention that merged material, ergonomics, and shape. This principle resulted in lasting symbols of the modern age.Working in the zeitgeist of 60s design, Preben Fabricius and Jorgen Kastholm founded a studio together that would go on to create some of the decade’s most classic shapes, such as the bucket chair.  Their main concern was to clearly state the function of an aesthetic form. The bucket chair won the very first German prize for “Good Shape” (“Gute Form”) in 1969.
