Ej5 Corona Wood Frame Chair’s Story:
Poul M. Volther wanted to create an easy chair that has a wooden frame when he made the Corona. It has a natural base and is composed of natural material. As a matter of fact, it lends natural support to the pads that have an oval shape. This climbs upward like a spine so that it provides support to the body. It also has a crowned neck rest. The wooden frame offers Corona warm touch and compliments the unique oval shaped seats. Corona has been proving its worth ever since its establishment and has become a classic icon. You will hardly come across a more exquisite workmanship.
Poul M. Volther has been trained as a cabinetmaker. He had attended the School of Arts and Craft, too. He belonged to that generation of architect who followed Scandinavian functionalism. They followed the principle of organic design and modernist motto declaring form follows function. Apart from leaving a mark in international and Danish design history with his Corona, he also taught in The Danish Design School. This served as an inspiration for numerous new designers. His unerring sense of form and strict requirements of quality became motivated these new designers.
