Quattro Traceable leather

FurnishPlus wants the journey from producer to customer to become clearer and more transparent. We want to know the origin of raw wood, hides and leather, to make sure we can vouch for its quality. Therefore, we work closely with our suppliers to raise the environmental and social ethical considerations that are often associated with leather production. Our mission is to set high social, environmental and animal welfare standards that ensure our consumers receive the best possible product. We have therefore decided that our Quattro leather should be 100% traceable, to ensure we can always document the leather’s journey from producer to consumer.

Our Quality

Quality
with good conscience

Quality has always been one of FurnishPlus’ most important missions – quality in the broadest sense of the word. Our concept of quality is not just limited to a long lifetime, beautiful designs, solid craftsmanship and excellent materials – it also includes the direct environmental impact during the production phase. We want to ensure our furniture is manufactured from the best materials that create minimal environmental impact. If we want to take environmental issues seriously, we need to consider improving every step in our manufacturing process, which is precisely what we are doing with our new Quattro Traceable leather. It’s essential for us that we can guarantee the quality all the way in our food chain. From producer to consumer.

Bred, tanned and
produced in Italy

Having a European production is a major advantage for us, as it enables us to ensure high product quality, good working conditions and fast and reliable delivery.  Our new Quattro Traceable leather is exclusively produced in Italy. This means that all cattle are bred and tanned in Italy. There are several reasons for this.  Firstly, this ensures minimal transport time to reduce CO2 emissions, we can make sure all European standards are met and we can also ensure that animal welfare is in order. Quattro Traceable also enables us to improve our natural, labour and environmental considerations, as this leather type is produced without the use of chrome.

FurnishPlus leather guide

FurnishPlus leather is selected from pure and natural products and its appearance varies in the same fashion as wood and other natural products.
This means that no two hides are the same, which serves to tell the story of the material. Any variations in the leather are therefore not defects but rather a reflection of the natural properties of real leather that distinguish it from synthetic imitations.

All leather should be protected against sunlight and strong heat. Keep furniture at a fair distance from sun-exposed windows, wood-burning stoves, radiators, etc. Bear in mind that leather often has a lower colour fastness than fabric.

As a rule, leather does not require much maintenance. But some maintenance is essential. Leather furniture that is exposed to hard wear, dirt, sunlight, dryness, etc., requires more maintenance than normal.

Grease and liquids break down leather in the same way they break down fabric. Avoid spills or moist and fatty crumbs from food. Never use detergents, liquid soaps, solvents or other cleaning agents on leather.

When you initially use your furniture, the leather will be relatively taut. As you use it, the leather will stretch relatively quickly. This causes natural folds in the leather. This usually occurs within the first month, depending on how the furniture is used. Afterwards, the leather will only stretch to a lesser degree. These creases should be expected and are not an indication of a leather defect or the quality of the furniture.

The spaces we create are who we are

We do our best to take responsibility for how the environment and the people around us are affected by our company’s activities. This is an important part of our work.We are constantly finding new areas for improvement. It may be things large or small, but we are on the right track and know that even small details can be of great significance.
Our core values are PEOPLE, CREATIVITY AND QUALITY, and we do our utmost to follow through with these in everything we do, from the design concept to the finished product in our customers’ homes.
We are big fans of natural materials such as wood, leather, marble, veneer, metal, concrete, resin and wool, and we love to create contrasts with colours, details, humour and surprising combinations to create unique and exciting designs. Our aim is to create high quality furniture that will last for many years.
The majority of FurnishPlus products are designed in Denmark and other EU countries but manufacture in China under a AAA quality control. More than 75% of our volume is produced in China and the rest in other countries in Asia.
Our AAA quality control service means a stronger advantage that allows us to ensure both high product quality and good working conditions. The local production is also better for the environment, due to minimized transportation and thereby CO2 emissions.

Dressed to impress

All our sofa frames are made of sustainable wood and the wood glue is 100 % water based and environment friendly. If you take a closer look inside a FurnishPlus sofa you will see that it is just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. All seat and back cushions are built solely of cold foam and/or down and feathers. The cold foam is a synthetic material that is measured in kilograms per cubic meter. The higher the weight, the better the quality, as the firmness of quality cold foam changes very little over time.
Our cushions and pillows are filled with down/feathers around a cold foam core, or down/feathers mixed with granules of cold foam.We all know the difference in quality in down and feathers from duvets and pillows. The aim for all our cushions and pillows is lightness and ability to regain its shape.
We demand high ethics and morality from our producers, also with regard to animal welfare. That is why all the feathers we use for the filling of cushions and pillows regulated poultry food production within Europe only, and not from live plucking.
On the outside, all our sofa and furniture fabrics are made of 100 % wool or recyclable polyester, 100% free of heavy metals such as nickel, lead or chromium.
The wool we are using in our wool fabrics is certified from IWTO (international Wool Textile Organization), IWTO has made tests, which insure that the animals are treated in the best respectful manner. Also our wool has passed the international “REACH” test which indicates that it fulfills the highest EU standards for wool. Our leathers are handpicked and carefully selected from around the world and comes from free-range cattle. Our leathers are produced without any use of PCP or CFC. Our leather impregnation fluids are based on water. Finally, we also ensure that all leather impregnations are fluorine carbon free, and thereby not causing any damage to the environment. In fact all our leather impregnation fluids are based on water.

Honest materials

We are big fans of natural materials such as wood, leather, marble, veneer, metal, concrete, resin and wool, and we love to create contrasts with colours, details, humour and surprising combinations to create unique and exciting designs. Our aim is to create high quality furniture that will last for many years. We minimise the usage of low-durability materials such as chipboard, laminated chipboard, board-on-frame etc. These low cost materials are heavily used in the furniture business, but are not entirely environmentally friendly because of their low quality, durability and high waste rate.
Here are a few quick facts about the materials in our collection:

  • Our sofa and furniture fabrics are made of 100 % wool or recyclable polyester, 100% free of heavy metals such as nickel, lead or chromium.
  • The wool we use in our wool fabrics is certified from IWTO (international Wool Textile Organization), IWTO has made tests, which insure that the animals are treated in the best respectful manner. Also our wool has passed the international “REACH” test which indicates that it fulfills the highest EU standards for wool.
  • Our leathers are handpicked and carefully selected from around the world and are produced without any use of PCP or CFC. Our leather impregnation fluids are based on water. Furthermore our Sierra leather can be traced back to the area where the hides come from.
  • Our sofa frames are made of sustainable wood and the wood glue is 100 % water based and environment friendly.
  • The down and feathers we use for our pillows and cushions comes from birds used in regulated poultry food production within Europe. This guarantees that the birds are not killed only for the use of their downs and that they have not been plucked alive. Our suppliers are monitored regularly via the HACCP quality system.
  • At FurnishPlus.ca we carefully follow and respect the high REACH standards, eliminating risky substances from our production processes and thereby minimizing any possible allergic reactions.
  • All the mahogany solid wood and veneer we use in our designs comes strictly from FSC approved forestry and supplier network from West Africa. FSC certification is securing that the wood is coming from reproductive forests.
  • The production of FurnishPlus cowhide products is ISO certified with no usage of hexavalent chrome in the process.
  • The FurnishPlus wool plaids are made from 100 % pure new wool.

The REACH Standards

At FurnishPlus.ca we carefully follow and respect the high EU REACH standards, eliminating risky substances from our production processes and thereby minimising any possible allergic reactions.
Europe’s chemicals legislation (REACH) grants consumers the right to information about specific problematic chemicals in consumer products. These substances are contained in the Candidate List, an official EU list of substances of very high concern. The list includes chemicals with known long-term adverse effects on humans and/or the environment. This list is updated regularly.
We will avoid the use of potentially harmful chemicals in our products. We therefore require that our producers must avoid the use of substances on the Candidate List in the production process.
Around 95% of our collection is purchased within the EU and we make sure that all of our producers are aware of their obligation to inform us regarding the content of substances on the Candidate List in their respective products.
You are welcome to make an enquiry about any product in our collection. All enquiries regarding problematic chemicals in our products are handled by our central product department.
